#5 Surveillance or Law Enforcement

When thinking about surveillance what comes to mind? Well let's start with the definition of surveillance. Surveillance is the monitoring of behavior, activities, or information for the purpose of influencing, managing, or directing. So basically it means keeping close tabs or with a lot of scrutiny on something or someone. Surveillance can be found anywhere. Inside your home or outside, grocery or convenience stores, companies, or any type of establishment where a lot of people come frequently. Surveillance can be used for to see if a crime or murder has occurred.
Surveillance is very useful when comes to crime and murder.

Also surveillance comes in many forms. The type of surveillance I will be discussing is home surveillance. Now home surveillance is useful for things happening in, outside, or around your home. Many people use home surveillance to keep tabs on their kids, animals, or to look out for theft, burglary, or suspicious activity.  I will be talking about backyard surveillance. People all the time caught various things on camera in the backyard. One case is where a dog chases bear from garden in the backyard. A New Jersey dog has been promised a steak after the fearless pup chased an intruding black bear from a neighbor’s backyard this week.
Mark Stinziano, of West Milford, caught the encounter on a home security camera Tuesday night when the bear decided to raid the bird feeder set up behind his house. The bear pulls down the feeder and is enjoying the snack when the neighbor’s dog, Riley, dashes into the yard, the video shows. Riley crashes into the startled bear, which scrambles to escape.

Black bears are attracted to odors from potential food sources, including garbage, pet food, birdseed and small livestock, according to the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife. Bears will learn to associate people with food even if they are fed unintentionally through garbage or food items left outside. These bears may become aggressive toward people and have to be trapped or even killed, the agency says. It is illegal to feed bears in New Jersey. Offenders can face a $1,000 fine.
Riley’s owner, Alan Tlusty, told WABC-TV that his dog has chased bears out of the yard before, but never with such intensity. And now the daring dog is getting a reward for its intervention. “My neighbor’s dog is getting a steak dinner next time I see him,” Stinziano wrote on Facebook. “He is an awesome pup that comes to check on the kids from time to time. Now he is keeping them safe!”

“Riley-1 Bear-0,” he added.

Another surveillance that was captured was these two raccoons in the backyard at night.
Two raccoons then tentatively appear from the right-hand side of the screen as they scurry on all fours along the path. The person behind the camera taps on the glass to catch their attention which startles them. Both of the curious animals freeze and turn to look up at the source of the noise.
The camera zooms in on one of the spooked creatures before panning around to the other which is now standing on its hind legs. It appears to be rooted to the spot as it stands like a human with its arms spread out to the side. It remains completely frozen until briefly glancing over to its counterpart and dropping back down to the floor.  The pair then continue to scamper away, which is where the video ends. A raccoon's natural response to confrontation is to freeze and stare at the threat. It is thought that they do this to assess what their opponent's next move will be.
